Nursing - Nurse / Midwife Prescribing
Course Description
This Certificate in Nursing (Nurse/Midwife Prescribing) aims to equip nurses and midwives with the requisite knowledge, skills and competence to prescribe medicinal products safely and effectively.
Upon successful completion of this course, the graduate will be eligible to apply to An Bord Altranais (ABA) for registration as a Registered Nurse Prescriber.

Assessment Info
The course will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods, including examination, written assignment, Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and a clinical portfolio which includes the completion of three independent Objective Structured long Examination Records and a case presentation.
Subjects taught
The course is composed of three modules
Developing the Professional Role,
Prescribing Medicinal Products
Physical Assessment.
Each module has 10 ECTS credits and each requires students to carry out clinical practicum, attend Trinity-based theory lectures and follow the course material by the e-learning method. Students are required to attend the university for approximately 10 days over the course of the year. In addition there is requirement for 12 days clinical exposure.
To be awarded a Certificate, a student must successfully complete all three modules to the value of 30 ECTS.
