Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology

Course Overview
This online Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology course has been developed in collaboration with industry experts and the regulatory authority to meet the requirements of the industry today. The course has been designed to provide flexibility for students who are working in supervisory and management roles in the pharmaceutical industry, to manage the challenge of balancing work /study /family responsibilities.

The general areas covered include pharmaceutical processing, chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical biology, and regulation of health products and manufacturing. Candidates who are eligible and wish to progress to the Masters qualification must also complete a Qualified Person (QP) Professional Industrial dissertation. During the year, participants will also undertake several manufacturing facilities visits.

This course is a two-year online learning course running from January to December each year.

This course is designed for students with a degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicine & Technology, Biology, or other related discipline, with some experience of working in the pharmaceutical manufacturing and associated industries. If you want to become a Qualified Person (QP) and expand your career options, then this course is for you.

Course Structure
This course is a two-year online course running from January to December each year.

To achieve the Postgraduate Diploma, students will complete eight taught modules, totalling 60 ECTS. Candidates who are eligible and wish to progress to the Masters programme must complete a QP Professional Industrial dissertation worth 30 ECTS.

Subjects taught

Students take eight taught modules: Pharmaceutical Processing; Pharmacology and Drug Assessment; Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms; Pharmaceutical Biology; Innovation and Leadership in Health Product Manufacturing; Health Product Analysis and Testing; and Regulation of Health Products and Manufacturing.

Students who wish to progress to the Masters course must complete a QP Professional Industrial dissertation.

Throughout the year, participants are required to attend either in-person or virtually a number of manufacturing facility visits, module tutorials, workshops, regulatory lectures, networking
events and examinations. Each module contains several sessions. Tutorials are synchronous and largely occur at weekly or bi-weekly intervals.

Entry requirements

Admission Requirements
Applicants are expected to have an Honours Bachelor's degree (ideally 2.1 or above) in one of the following disciplines: chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, medicine and technology, or biology. Other disciplines may also be considered as suitable.

Some experience of working in the pharmaceutical manufacturing and associated industries is also desirable. In case of heavy competition for places or where there are concerns regarding a particular applicant’s suitability, applicants may be interviewed.

This course is offered to graduates working in the pharmaceutical industry who wish to satisfy the EU educational requirements for the role of the Qualified Person (QP) responsible for the manufacture of human and veterinary medicinal products. Many of our graduates now hold global or senior executive quality management positions in pharmaceutical multinational companies.
