Physiotherapy - Pre-Registration Dublin

Ireland’s health sector, the third largest employer in the country, offers tremendous opportunities for qualified professionals, especially in health therapy professions. The high demand for skilled physiotherapists, combined with the limited number of training programmes, makes this an ideal time to pursue a career in this rewarding field.



Our MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) equips you with the knowledge and experience to become a registered physiotherapist. This full-time, two-year programme is ideal for those with a related science degree who aspire to work as physiotherapists at a master’s level.



Under the guidance of skilled clinicians, you’ll treat patients, observe practitioners, and engage in all aspects of physiotherapy care. You’ll also participate in case conferences, ward rounds, and various visits. The programme includes two seven-week placements each year, offering experience with a diverse range of service users through voluntary and private placements, as well as our on-site clinics.



Our expert tutors, who are practising clinicians and experienced educators, will guide you throughout the programme. You’ll receive personalised support from an academic tutor, ensuring you achieve your best.

Work Placement

Physiotherapy Practice 1 and Physiotherapy Practice 2:



In these two units, you undertake a minimum combined total of

1000 practice hours through which you will develop and demonstrate your competency in core practice areas of physiotherapy.

Entry to this course is by direct application to Portobello Institute.



You will require a first or second class (2:1 or 2:2) BSc (Hons) degree in a relevant science-based subject. Examples of relevant subjects include sport and exercise science, sports rehabilitation, sports therapy, human biology, biomedical sciences, anatomy and physiology, healthcare studies.



An existing qualification in nursing, midwifery or relevant Allied Health Profession (e.g: osteopathy or chiropractic).



Entry is interview based with a 15-minute interview conducted via MS Teams. We will look holistically at each applicant’s undergraduate degree, experience to date, interest in physiotherapy and commitment to completing this programme and working in the space in the future.



Applicants for whom English is not their first be able to communicate in English to the standard equivalent to level 7 of the International English Language Testing System, with no element below 6.5 applicants are required to achieve the equivalent of an IELTS (academic) score of 7.0 or above with no less than 6.5 in each section.
