ReSound - Erasmus Mundus Joint MA

What is ReSound?

ReSound is a two year Joint Masters Degree in Sound delivered by a FilmEU consortium of IADT Dún Laoghaire in Dublin – Ireland, Lusofóna University Lisbon – Portugal and LMTA Vilnius – Lithuania.



The programme focuses on a range of core subjects within the field of sound studies, creation, and production. The programme is structured around three interconnected conceptual pillars: Societal, Skills and Creative. Each of these plays a crucial role in shaping the educational experience and the skills and knowledge acquired by students.



What will I Do?

Students will commence the programme in September at IADT Dún Laoghaire. Semester two students move to Lusofóna University Lisbon. Semester three is based at the LMTA Vilnius. During the final semester, students will complete a thesis project, with the location determined by the most suitable facilities and supervision requirements in each case.

2nd Semester – Lusofona University – Lisbon:

3rd Semester – Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) – Vilnius:

• Sound and the Environment

• Film Sound: Integrative methods and practice

• Sound Concepts

• Sound Design and Immersion

• Thesis Preparation



4th Semester - Thesis:

In the final semester, students are placed into carefully curated cohorts, designed to align their research ambitions with expert mentorship from leading institutions. This holistic, personalised approach ensures that every student benefits from tailored guidance, collaborative opportunities, and a strong professional network as they prepare to launch their careers in sound.

Who can apply?

ReSound is open to both European and non-European students who hold a bachelor’s degree in sound, music, film, media studies, computational science or related disciplines. Applicants with degrees in other fields may also be considered if they possess relevant prior experience in areas such as sound, music, film, or media studies. Another essential requirement is proficiency in the English language (if not the mother language) and being able to provide proof of such proficiency from our list of accepted language exams.



A maximum of 24 places are offered on ReSound each year, with a significant percentage of Erasmus Mundus scholarship awarded to successful candidates.



Portfolio: Yes.



What Should My Portfolio Include?

Your Portfolio should include a maximum of 3 examples of your sound or media-related work together with a short reflective paragraph on each piece. Portfolios should consist of 10-15 minutes of material. Make sure to select your best work.

This master’s programme is designed to accelerate participants’ careers in their chosen disciplines, for example, in media, film, television, game design, music or academia.
