At a glance

The Professional Certificate in Retirement Planning is a single module (10 ECTS) Level 9 programme, designed to deepen your knowledge of the theory and practice of retirement planning along with enhancing your skills needed to provide retirement planning advice.



Who is it for?

The Professional Certificate in Retirement Planning is designed to complement IOB current programme offerings in Asset, Investment and Wealth Management advice. It also provides graduates with a pathway to further study – the Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.



Award

This is a special purpose award and a level 9 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications.



Upon successful completion of the Retirement Planning module, students will be invited to take out the Retirement Planning Professional (RPP) designation.

Subjects taught

Retirement Planning (NFQ level 9, 10 ECTS)

The Retirement Planning module deals with all aspects of retirement provision, public and private, relevant to providing financial advice. It provides you with a macro view of the regulatory environment for pensions. It explores in detail a range of issues including the structure and investment of private arrangements for groups and individuals, insured and non-insured.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirements to the Professional Certificate in Retirement Planning are as follows:



An honours degree (min. 2.2 L8 NFQ) in business or a related discipline



Or



Equivalent relevant professional qualification (e.g.) Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA), with three years’ relevant work experience obtained in the banking or financial services industry, Chartered Tax Advisers (CTAs), accountants, solicitors and barristers.



OR



c) Admission many also be considered for experienced professionals who do not meet the admission requirements as set out above, where they can demonstrate knowledge through their work i.e. they have more than 5 years’ experience in a management role (to be considered on a case by case basis).



Candidates should also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel before starting on the programme.



Professional Body Membership

You must be a current member of IOB, or become a member, to undertake this programme, (membership year - January to December).

English Language Requirements

Teaching in IOB is through the medium of English; therefore, applicants must demonstrate a high level of competence in the English language to be admitted to study. Students whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate their proficiency in the language and must provide verifiable evidence of that proficiency.
