Spanish & Latin American Studies

The programme will be of interest to those who already have a broad interest in Spanish and the places where it is spoken. At Maynooth, you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge through expertly-guided readings, small-group discussions, and practical application. On-campus sessions will take place throughout the day on Wednesdays, allowing you to combine your study with work and other commitments. You will also have the opportunity to focus on a particular area of your choice for the purpose of an MA dissertation, a piece of original research which you will carry out under the supervision of one of our Spanish and Latin American Studies specialists.

The modules offered cover areas that range from Translation to Intercultural Studies, and from the literature of the Spanish Civil War to the culture of Chicano communities in the United States.

The programme can be completed in one or two years.

Previous graduates of this programme have gone on to pursue careers in areas such as journalism, teaching, and enterprise; others have used the programme as a basis for progressing to PhD research in Spanish and Latin American Studies.
