Supply Chain Management

The Masters in Supply Chain Management at Maynooth University has a number of distinct advantages. Firstly, it offers a number of experiences of direct interaction with industry clients including a Supply Chain in Practice module, a Global Logistics & Transportation module and a Business Consulting Project or Placement. Secondly, it offers a strong mix of strategy and technical skills, and links these with industry to put learning directly into an industry context. Thirdly, modules are designed with application in mind so that students can apply their skills directly. Fourthly, the programme offers the opportunity for a structured placement with industry. Finally, it is offered in a block structure thus students who wish to combine full-time education with maintaining a part-time position in industry will find it attractive.

Subjects taught

Students will learn the core fundamentals of Operations and Supply Chain Management that facilitate the production and distribution of products and services on which we depend. In terms of analytical skills, students will learn a wide range of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics tools and techniques to support data-driven decisions. They will also learn about global supply chains challenges such as cross-border logistics, trade regulations, supply chain resilience and risk management. Given the growing interest in digitalisation and the crucial role of technology, the programme makes students familiar with supply chain software, Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain, and their role in improving supply chain visibility, efficiency, and decision-making. As projects drive business change, students will learn to apply project management techniques and tools for effectively managing supply chain projects, including technology adoption or process optimisation, ensuring results that are delivered on time and within budget.

The programme includes a practical component where students apply their knowledge and skills to contemporary real-world supply chain problems.

These learnings can be applied to any organisation, from a local start-up SME to multinational organisations, and from the manufacturing to the services sectors, as well as in the non-for-profit sector.

We have two semesters of taught modules, during which each module is taught over four days. These four days will be time- tabled three to four weeks apart so that learning can occur between the individual teaching days and permits reflection on content and the completion of projects and tasks.
