Technologies & Analytics in Precision Medicine - Microcredential

Healthcare has seen a major shift as it continues to introduce digital technology to traditional science, leading to an increased focus on disease prevention and tailored therapies. The launch of our microcredentials in Technologies and Analytics in Precision Medicine enables professionals to upskill and develop their knowledge and skills to stay on top of the evolving healthcare landscape.



The programme has been developed in view of the growing demands and evolution of the healthcare landscape and is supported by the Higher Education Authority under the Human Capital Initiative.

Subjects taught

Modules

Each microcredential module is worth 5 ECTS. You can complete them as a standalone module and over the course of a maximum of five years, or stack them to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma.



Modules for microcredentials include:



Human Genetics/Genomics/Omics Technologies



The Human Genetics/Genomics/Omics Technologies microcredential covers these topics in details along with the concepts, strategies and clinical application of precision medicine. The course will provide you with the conceptual framework for understanding and engaging with genomics information. This is a four-week module.



Leadership Development



The Leadership Development microcredential provides you with the knowledge and understanding to develop leadership competencies and capabilities within the evolving healthcare system. This is a four-week module.



Bioinformatics and Biostatistics



The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics microcredential will provide you with an understanding of the origin, retrieval, analysis and interpretation of information contained within the biological database. The course will also equip you with the statistical skills to appropriately interrogate the data. This is a four-week module.



Contemporary Issues in Healthcare



The Contemporary Issues in Healthcare microcredential course will facilitate an understanding of key emerging issues in healthcare and society at a national and international level. It will also provide you with an introduction into design thinking. This is a four-week module.



Innovation – Translating the Concept



The Innovation – Translating the Concept microcredential will enable you to understand the process required in developing innovative products, services and technologies to support the healthcare system. This course will develop your creative and innovative skills in healthcare. This is a four-week module.



Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the Healthcare Setting



This module is intended to provide foundational knowledge on various AI and ML-based approaches and its application in doing data science in the healthcare setting. The concepts taught and evaluated in this module will include real world evidence, electronic health records, key statistical approaches used in AI as well as application of AI across a range of healthcare associated topics. This is a four-week module.



Connected Healthcare



The Connected Healthcare microcredential provides insight and knowledge in enhancing and implementing digital healthcare solutions. With a foundational knowledge in artificial intelligence and machine learning, its approaches and application. There is also a focus on software as a medical device, analysing the drivers, enablers and barriers to connected health. The course will also provide you with insights into the internet of medical things encouraging you to apply the concepts to clinical pathways and review and critique current applications.This is a four-week module.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have successfully completed an undergraduate healthcare (pharmacy or medicine) degree or a primary degree programme (minimum of a 2.1 honours or equivalent) in a biological, chemical or mathematical science (including computer science).



In addition, candidates who hold a primary degree, with a second-class grade (H2.2) in a biological, chemical or mathematical science (including computer science) and with industrial experience will be considered.



If English is not your native language, an English language qualification is required. English language qualifications include a minimum overall score of 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), as per RCSI requirements.



Students who successfully secure a place on the programme can apply for a student visa. RCSI can provide a visa letter to support an application for a student visa.
