and Burke Construction Ltd is offering
placements for 2027 as part of the University of Galway's Industry Work
Placement Programme.

Placements
will be based on live project sites or offices across Ireland, with students
contributing to the planning, execution,
and delivery of large-scale infrastructure works.

Placement students
will be fully embedded within
project delivery teams and involved
in the day-to-day operations of live construction sites or design
offices. Responsibilities will vary depending on discipline but may include:

 

For Civil
Engineering students:

·        
Assisting with the design,
construction and delivery
of civil infrastructure works, including earthworks, concrete structures,
pipelines, chambers, drainage networks, roads, and reinforced concrete tanks.

·        
Supporting the setting out, surveying, and inspection of civil works to ensure
construction activities are completed in accordance with drawings,
specifications, and quality requirements.

·        
Preparing and assisting with the review of general
arrangement drawings, civil construction drawings, reinforcement drawings, drainage
layouts, and utility drawings.

·        
Monitoring civil
construction activities on site to ensure works are completed
in accordance with design
requirements, construction programmes, and quality standards.

·        
Supporting testing,
inspection, and commissioning activities associated with pipelines, drainage
systems, tanks, and other civil infrastructure.

·        
Assisting with the coordination of plant, materials, deliveries, subcontractors, and construction sequencing to support efficient site operations.

·        
Participating in site inspections and identifying potential
construction, quality, safety,
access, and programme issues.

·        
Carrying out quality control
checks and assisting with the preparation of quality records, inspection
reports, as-built information, and handover documentation.

·        
Maintaining site records, site diaries, drawing
registers, quantities, and progress reports.

·        
Supporting the preparation of
method statements, risk assessments, permits, and other construction management
documentation.

·        
Working alongside experienced
civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, site supervisors, subcontractors,
and commissioning personnel during the construction and commissioning of water and wastewater treatment facilities.

·        
Gaining hands-on exposure to
project planning, construction management, quality assurance, contract
delivery, commissioning, and the successful handover of major infrastructure
projects.

Gain hands-on experience in live construction and commissioning environments.

Develop an understanding of
project delivery from design through construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.

Build technical, project management, and problem-solving skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

·        
Contribute to significant infrastructure projects.

 

All students
will be expected to work collaboratively within diverse site teams, demonstrate initiative, and contribute to the safe and efficient
delivery of complex engineering projects.
