Design Engineer – Telecom, Renewables & Utility
Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our Telecom,
Renewables & Utility team. The successful candidate will support the design and delivery of
infrastructure projects across solar, wind, battery energy storage (BESS), telecoms, and
grid/utility sectors. This role suits an engineer who enjoys technical variety, cross-disciplinary
collaboration, and hands-on involvement from concept design through to construction support.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare civil, structural, and layout designs for renewable energy projects (solar PV,
wind, BESS) and telecom/utility infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain detailed CAD drawings, site layouts, and technical schematics in
line with client and regulatory requirements.
• Support the preparation of planning application drawings, construction documentation,
and technical specifications.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to inform design decisions.
• Coordinate with GIS teams to produce accurate site plans, constraint mapping, and
spatial analysis.
• Liaise with clients, planning authorities, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary
teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international standards, codes of
practice, and health & safety regulations.
• Assist with quality control and review of drawings and documentation produced by
junior team members.
• Support tender preparation, cost estimation, and technical reports as required.
• Keep up to date with industry developments in renewable energy, telecom, and utility
design practices.
Required Skills & Experience
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 2+ years' experience in a design engineering role, ideally within renewables, telecoms,
or utility infrastructure.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Revit, QGIS, and BIM.
• Familiarity with renewable energy design tools (e.g. WindPro) is a plus.
• Understanding of Irish and/or UK planning processes and construction documentation
requirements.
• Strong technical drawing and drafting skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently across technical and
non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues across
CAD and GIS functions.
Desirable
• Exposure to architectural visualisation tools (e.g. SketchUp, Autocad 3D, 3Ds Max,
Blender, etc).
• Prior experience in infrastructure design and developments.
