The Programme
The Civil Engineering Graduate Programme is designed for recent graduates beginning their careers in the water and wastewater industry. Through practical project experience, structured rotations, mentoring and professional development, you will gain an understanding of how multidisciplinary projects are designed, constructed, commissioned, operated and maintained.
There will be one 12-month in-depth rotation, as well as another two 6-month rotations across other areas of the business. Potential rotation areas include civil design, pre-contracts and estimating, project delivery, construction management, commissioning, asset management, operations, commercial or procurement functions.
Depending on business requirements and suitable opportunities, graduates may have the opportunity to complete one of the six-month rotations in Portugal or the UK. International placements are not guaranteed and will be subject to operational requirements, individual suitability and any applicable travel or work eligibility requirements.
The Role
As a Civil Engineering Graduate, you will work within multidisciplinary engineering and project delivery teams, supporting water and wastewater projects from design through construction, commissioning, completion and handover. You will work alongside experienced professionals and take on greater responsibility as your technical knowledge and practical experience develop.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support multidisciplinary teams in planning, coordinating and delivering civil engineering works across one or more projects.
- Assist with civil design reviews, site surveying and setting out, inspections, quality checks, progress monitoring and as-built records.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental, quality and sustainability requirements and support the completion of associated site documentation.
- Coordinate with project personnel, clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders, including support for material take-offs and procurement.
- Participate fully in each rotation, maintain accurate project records and take ownership of your technical and professional development.
What We Are Looking For
- A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or expected completion before the programme begins.
- A genuine interest in civil engineering and sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Strong communication, teamwork, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive approach, willingness to learn and flexibility to work across office, site and rotation locations.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle. Both are essential due to project locations and programme travel requirements.
- Previous construction, engineering, infrastructure or water-sector experience gained through an internship, work placement, summer role or university project is beneficial but not essential.
