Due to continued growth and success, Irish Life is recruiting talented individuals for the role of Trainee Actuary. This is an exciting opportunity with a lot of potential for career development in a fast-moving environment. Irish Life is keen to speak with students from an actuarial, finance, mathematical or other relevant degree background. Successful applicants can hope to commence work between June and September 2027.

- Full time, permanent position
- Hybrid role based in the Dublin city centre offices
The Opportunity
- The programme offers a range of supports to guide students in their careers.
- Under the Rotations Policy, trainees rotate between actuarial teams every 2-3 years, building valuable experience across a range of areas in the business.
- The Trainee Actuary Study Scheme includes paid study leave ahead of exams, payment of exam fees, payment of membership of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, study materials, study tutorials and career mentoring within the company with the largest actuarial community in Ireland.
- Irish Life supports an active work-life balance, including subsidised gym membership, sports and social clubs, staff charity events and community volunteering. The city centre campus redevelopment was completed in 2026 and includes a new gym and swimming pool complex.

The Roles
The roles available include a wide range of responsibilities within the actuarial teams, including:
- Providing insights on business performance and the setting of regulatory reserves and capital
- Developing and pricing new and innovative insurance products that meet emerging customer needs while generating adequate shareholder return within controlled risk thresholds
- Implementing and reporting on complex reinsurance strategies designed to reduce risk
- Performing data analysis to identify trends and anomalies and assisting management decision making
- Providing actuarial and technical support for queries from clients, sales channels and other teams
- Developing and improving modelling solutions to assist financial reporting, business insights and new business pricing processes
The Person
- Ability to work well within a team and across teams
- Strong commercial awareness, technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- A strong customer service focus, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong digital skills and a willingness to keep learning; knowledge of MS Office, and SQL or other emerging coding software, would be an advantage
- On track to achieve, or have achieved, a 2.1 degree classification (or equivalent)

Applicants should include in their cover letter a short paragraph (no more than 100 words) on their motivations for becoming an actuary, along with a completed table covering their name, university, degree and course, expected overall final grade, university results to date for Years 1-3, and Leaving Certificate, A level or equivalent results, including the result received in Mathematics. If relevant, also include expected actuarial exemptions from university, details of any previous degrees and any placement experience.
