SMT H&S Internship Programme Details

Position Details

Title: Junior H&S Officer / H&S Intern

Reports To: Senior H&S Consultant

Days of Work: 08:30 - 17:00 Mon-Thurs, 08:30 - 16:30 Fridays.

Location: Ballyragget, Kilkenny (6-9months)

Travel Required: Yes. Travel maybe required following internship period.

Vehicle Provided: Yes along with fuel card and toll tag once internship is completed and full review of performance and permanent contract is signed.

Hardware Provided: Laptop, phone, tablet (where required), projector (where required).

Role Overview

SMT Consultants Ltd is offering a Health & Safety Graduate Internship based on a live operational site in Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience within a fast-paced industrial environment, supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of health and safety systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist H&S Team reviewing and updating existing Risk Assessments
  • Support site audits, inspections, and compliance checks
  • Participate in incident reporting and investigation processes
  • Help maintain health and safety documentation and records
  • Support the implementation of safety initiatives and continuous improvement programmes
  • Assist with training coordination, safety alerts and toolbox talks
  • Assist with Contractor Management
  • Assist with Monthly Reporting preparation

Candidate Requirements

  • Level 8 Degree qualification or its equivalent in Health and Safety is required.
  • Knowledge of Irish Health and Safety legislation and regulation is a must.
  • Must be fluent in English and be eligible to work in Ireland.
  • Full driving license.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Office; SharePoint experience an advantage)
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
