Role Overview
The UCC Library
internship programme has been created to ensure the active engagement of
students in the further development of library services. The programme offers
UCC students an exciting opportunity to gain paid work experience in an
academic library environment.
Under the general
direction of an experienced professional supervisor, the Intern will acquire
hands-on experience in a particular discipline within the library
environment. They will work with staff from across the Library team,
engage with library clients and work collaboratively on an assigned
project.
Project
details
The aim of this project is to develop a new
Library digital badge, titled Research Ready: Finding and Using Information, in
support of the Library’s Digital and Information Literacy Framework. Through
online, self-paced modules in Canvas and guided practical activities, learners
will develop confidence in finding and using academic resources (including
using databases). The badge covers key topics such as knowing where to search,
developing search strategies, improving search techniques, avoiding plagiarism,
and accurately citing and referencing information. The badge will be designed
for all learners, regardless of discipline or level, who want to build
confidence and skills in finding and using information.
The intern will work closely with the
Library’s Learning and Teaching Team to create content for the digital badge
and assist in delivering a pilot of the digital badge to collect user feedback
via a survey and focus group.

Library’s online information and research resources.
Strong IT proficiency
skills.
Some experience with
conducting qualitative and/or mixed methods research and data analysis.
Desirable Criteria
Awareness of
Universal Design for Learning principles and digital accessibility.
Experience with
recording videos and/or audio voiceovers.
