and Burke Construction Ltd is offering
placements for 2027 as part of the University of Galway's Industry Work
Placement Programme.

Placements
will be based on live project sites or offices across Ireland, with students
contributing to the planning, execution,
and delivery of large-scale infrastructure works.

Placement students
will be fully embedded within
project delivery teams and involved
in the day-to-day operations of live construction sites or design
offices. Responsibilities will vary depending on discipline but may include:

For Mechanical Engineering students:

·        
Assisting with the design,
installation and assembly
of mechanical process
equipment which can include
pumps, blowers, screens, mixers, scrapers, conveyors, and treatment plant
machinery.

·        
Supporting the installation, alignment, and inspection of pipework systems,
valves, penstocks, air distribution
systems, and associated mechanical infrastructure.

·        
Preparing and assisting with
the review of fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings, pipework layouts, and mechanical equipment
schedules.

·        
Monitoring mechanical installation activities on site to ensure works are completed
in accordance with drawings, specifications, and quality
requirements.

·        
Supporting mechanical testing and commissioning activities, including equipment inspections, functional
testing, pressure testing, and performance verification.

·        
Assisting with the coordination of equipment deliveries, lifting operations, and installation sequencing to support construction activities.

·        
Participating in site inspections and identifying potential
mechanical issues relating
to equipment access, maintainability, operability, and
installation.

·        
Supporting the preparation of
quality records, commissioning checklists, equipment documentation, and as-
built information.

·        
Working alongside experienced civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers, fitters, and commissioning personnel during the construction and commissioning of water and
wastewater treatment facilities.

·        
Gaining hands-on exposure to the design,
installation, commissioning, operation, and optimisation of mechanical
systems used in major infrastructure projects.

Work alongside experienced electrical, mechanical, process, and civil engineering professionals.

Gain hands-on experience in live construction and commissioning environments.

Develop an understanding of
project delivery from design through construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.

Build technical, project management, and problem-solving skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

·        
Contribute to significant infrastructure projects.

 

 

All students will be expected
to work collaboratively within diverse site teams, demonstrate initiative, and contribute to the safe and efficient
delivery of complex engineering projects.
