Summary

Art in Tanzania supports village dispensaries and larger hospitals in providing physical therapy services to the community. We also offer sports physiotherapy services at the largest Tanzanian football clubs and Youth Academies.

Details

Art in Tanzania has been operating since 1996. Our community placements attract about 250 participants annually. Our vision is to give students hands-on experience working in developing communities in Africa. In addition to your studies, you will have an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience of African culture and life, as well as fantastic natural scenery and wildlife.

Art in Tanzania's community-based physical therapy program empowers local communities through physiotherapy services.

At the village level, the local dispensaries allocate the ongoing needs of their patients. Clinical-based physiotherapy is then delivered in larger hospitals.

We assist physical therapy practices at the Tanzanian Youth Football Academy and at leading football clubs in the Dar es Salaam Region.

We monitor your work using a weekly plan-and-report system to ensure your progress in your study program.

The internship outcome is learning to apply your education and gain experience implementing it in developing-country conditions with limited capacity, as well as a deeper understanding of the opportunities in a fast-growing economy.

Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

The program is ongoing, so the start dates are adjustable. Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and interests, empowering our daily work with the communities.

Daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility work.

The start and end dates are flexible, as all programs are ongoing, many having been in operation since 1996.

You and your visiting friends can enjoy low-cost, sustainable safaris and tours.

We typically have 15-40 students from diverse parts of the world, representing over 1000 universities with which we collaborate, as well as a variety of professions.

Note that Erasmus+ funding can be applied for the training in Tanzania. You can ask your student office about the grant options.
