Software Engineer(s) at
ASTech

ASTech, a former NUIG campus company is based in IDA Business Park Dangan (beside
Insight/DERI) which specialises in exam software systems (MCQ, Essay and others) and electronic logbooks for the aviation industry particularly for engineers but also for Pilots and other personnel. We are internationally trading and have customers throughout Europe, Gulf, Africa, South America and in the Far East.
Our GEMS examination software system is delivered as a VM (built on VMWare but deployed also as Hyper-V and on other hypervisors) based on LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP). Ongoing developments include migration to Progressive Web using Vue.js and other technologies as well as offering Micro Services and also to offer Docker deployment of our applications. A particular emphasis on API first design and we are making increased use of Python Flask in API work. We are also
investigating the use of emerging AI applications in our products and have teamed up with Insight on the development of RAG LLMs for the generation of exam questions using training manuals as context.
We are seeking to build up a development team to expand. A Bachelor (or higher) degree in computer science or related discipline would be required and candidates should ideally be familiar with SQL, OOP, web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Good technical communication and problem-solving skills are required.
A foreign language (French or German) would be particularly useful but not mandatory. Familiarity with emerging AI concepts including Generative AI, LLMs, open source large-scale models would be an advantage.
Candidates are not expected to have the specific skill set ASTech currently use but will be expected to pick them up ‘on the job’ and time will be allocated for such skill-up.
A competitive salary starting at around 35k Euro per annum for the first 6 months probationary period and then reviewed. Pension scheme through the Irish Government MyFutureFund is available. There is flexibility for home working for part of the week and bonus based on performance is available
