Study at postgraduate level covers the following subject areas
Business and Law
The stunning £8m Business and Law building provides a contemporary, dynamic learning environment for students in the Business School and Department of Law and Criminology.
There's a dedicated law library, modern seminar and meeting rooms, social learning areas, roof garden and atrium, and a 100-seater lecture theatre as well as a mock up court room. Our Masters programmes cover the areas of: computing, management, marketing and web development. An MBA is also available.
Education
Edge Hill University is one of the leading providers of initial teacher training in the UK, successfully training the teachers of tomorrow for over 125 years. Furthermore our programmes were rated ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ in the most recent OfSted inspections.
The quality of training is matched by the Faculty's unique £9m setting. Overlooking a lake, the purpose-built state-of-the-art facility offers a thoroughly stimulating learning environment.
PGCEs cover Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post-Compulsory Education. Extensive professional development opportunities are also available, with a wide choice of MA and Postgraduate Certificate pathways.
English, History and Creative Writing
The Department of English and History is an energetic community offering a diverse range of subjects. Students are encouraged to read critically, think innovatively, question, and, above all, reflect on their own academic and creative practices.
MA and MRes programmes are available in creative writing, English, history and culture.
Health
The Faculty of Health is one of the main providers of education for healthcare professionals in Merseyside and the North West.
Based in a £14m purpose-built centre of excellence, teaching and learning resources are student-focused and second to none. Leading edge clinical skills facilities include simulation suites and laboratories with industry standard equipment to give students as realistic a learning experience as possible.
The Faculty's responsive and high quality courses offer extensive opportunities for professional development. Postgraduate provision covers cognitive behavioural psychotherapy, health and social care, respiratory practice, fertility practice, nutrition, dental implantology and three MCh (Master of Surgery) awards.
Biology and Conservation
The offers a friendly and supportive environment with a strong community spirit and excellent ICT and laboratory facilities.
Recognising the increasing importance of an understanding of biodiversity and its management, the department offers an MSc in Conservation Management and an MRes Biology. Both courses place an emphasis on fieldwork, biological identification skills, research and experience of a broad range of management issues.
Performing Arts
The £5 million Centre for Performing Arts boasts a fully equipped scene dock, two theatres, three dance studios, four performance studios, three rehearsal rooms, and costume, props and scenic design workshops.
Programmes within this field are available in: Creative and Cultural Education, Dance Movement Psychotherapy and Making Performance.
Social and Psychological Sciences
Social and Psychological Sciences is one of the largest and most innovative departments at Edge Hill University. Home to a thriving research culture, students enjoy an engaging and stimulating experience with access to cutting edge facilities.
The department offers an accredited postgraduate conversion programme in psychology as well as MRes programmes in Sociology and Childhood and Youth.
Sport and Physical Activity
The Department of Sport and Physical Activity offers a wide range postgraduate degrees designed to provide a gateway to an extensive choice of potential careers in sport and physical activity and other sectors. From teaching in schools to coaching elite athletes, and sports development to sports therapy, our facilities, practical work and work-based learning opportunities allow you to develop the skills to succeed. In the 2014 REF the department was ranked in the top 25 for its research impact in the UK whilst 45% of department research in total was rated world leading or internationally excellent.
With over a third of the Ormskirk Campus given over to cutting edge sporting facilities, students enjoy access to a sports therapy clinic, specialist laboratories, sport and exercise rehabilitation centre and dance studio, complemented by the brand new £25m Sporting Edge complex containing 25m swimming pool, fitness suites, 3G football pitches and social areas.
The Department of Sport and Physical Activity programmes across the areas of: coach education, football rehabilitation, physical education and school sport, sport and exercise science, sports development, sports studies and sports therapy.
