An education inspector inspects schools.

Education inspectors evaluate schools to ensure that specific standards in teaching, learning, financial management and organisation are being achieved and maintained.
Work activities
- Observing lessons.
- Talking with teachers and pupils.
- Assessing school organisation.
- Checking pupils’ work.
- Producing reports.
Work conditions
Travel: is a feature when visiting schools for inspection.
Working hours: can vary and be long, particularly during inspections.
Location: work is based on school premises and can involve some time away from home.
Entry requirements
Inspectors are mostly teachers with significant experience. The Department of Education and Skills is responsible for the Education Inspectorate in the Republic of Ireland.
