Contemporary Tax

This programme will provide the advanced skill sets required to negotiate a growing level of complex legislation in the field of taxation and provide modern tax professionals with the practical skills to apply data analytics and to understand Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to support their organisations within the competitive international arena.



The programme is delivered fully online, with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous lectures. Synchronous lectures will also be recorded, allowing students the flexibility to learn in their own time. Modules listed within the Programme Content with an (M) beside them are MicroCreds and can be taken independently.



This course qualifies for 50% funding under the HCI Micro-Credential Course Learner Subsidy. Check fees section for details and eligibility.

Subjects taught

Autumn Modules

Revenue Law and Negotiations (M)



You will gain an in-depth understanding of how to interpret tax legislation and its relationship with the Irish Constitution and EU law. The module will explain how arbitration works in a dispute over the application of the law and will equip you with the necessary negotiation skills to settle disputes.



Data Analytics for Tax (M)

You will gain the knowledge and practical skills to apply data analytics and data visualisation techniques to problems situated in the discipline of tax. Through a mixture of theory and practice, it will develop your understanding of the importance of data to the modern tax professional.



Spring Modules

Applied International Tax Law (M)

• You will gain an understanding of the principles underpinning and the risks inherent in the application of domestic and international tax law to corporate entities. This includes the application of double taxation relief and other contemporary themes in international tax such as BEPS 1.0 and 2.0 and transfer pricing.



Summer Modules

• Risk, Ethics, Governance and Artificial

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline such as accounting, economics, law, engineering, public administration.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognition of prior learning may be considered in accordance with the university regulations. In assessing applications, the Course Team will consider relevant accredited tax qualifications, work experience etc. as being suitable prior learning.
