Engineering & Built Environment - Research
School of Architecture, Building and Environment
The TU Dublin School of Architecture, Building and Environment welcomes applicants for PhD and M Phil research programmes.
School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is actively involved in research and offers a wide range of opportunities for postgraduate and postdoctoral research. We currently have 57 students studying for a PhD, 17 of whom are doing so part-time.
There are a number of Research Groups associated with the School in the areas of Photonics, Antennas, Wireless Communications, and Renewable Energy.
School of Mechanical & Design Engineering
Research in the School of Mechanical & Design Engineering is concentrated in the fields of Bioengineering, Materials Engineering, Computation Modelling, Energy and Process Environment Design and Manufacturing Processes. Our staff and research students are engaged in academic and applied research through involvement with other research centres and companies locally and nationally. In addition, another area of activity often of interest to indigenous companies is the use of the Innovation Vouchers scheme to enable companies to access the knowledge of academic colleagues to solve small well defined industrial problems. In this situation, the total cost of the work is carried by an innovation voucher awarded to the company by Enterprise Ireland. The School then works with such companies builds on these relationships by creating further research projects through Innovation Partnerships.
We have a range of equipment and facilities with the school to support most aspects of our research work, and within the University, the school has excellent additional facilities and equipment available through other Schools and Research centres such as the Focus Institute at Kevin Street and the Environmental Sciences and Health Institute (ESHI) at Grangegorman.
Built Environment Research and Innovation Centre
The Built Environment Research and Innovation Centre (BERIC) is a multidisciplinary research centre working across the whole life of built environment, including planning, design, construction, operation, and asset management.
The centre brings together expertise, capacity, and capability in cutting edge research for the discovery of pioneering solutions to complex global challenges within the built environment sector.
We have a proven track record in multi-stakeholder collaboration with national and international partners and actively promote and disseminate our research internationally.
We work with industry, Research Performing Organisations (RPOs), professional bodies, Government Departments and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) to guarantee evidence-based problem solving, idea generation and innovation across every facet of the built environment.
School of Transport and Civil Engineering
The School of Transport and Civil Engineering engages in active research across a number of areas through its associated Research Centre and Research Groups.
We currently have 15 PhD students undertaking research across a number of areas including Transport, structural engineering, engineering education, water, energy and sustainable construction.
