Practical Interventions for Children & Young People in Mental Distress - Waterford

This 10-credit course introduces students to a series of frameworks that will guide them through practicebased skills to assist children in mental distress. including: • Developing a rapport with children and young people • Managing communication effectively with families • Communication differences between a younger child and an older teen • Consent, confidentiality and communication when working with young people • Best practice in de-escalation of a young person in acute distress.

Subjects taught

This programme can be taken as a stand alone certificate or as a module towards the PG Dip or MSc in Mental Health Practice in Children and Young People

Entry requirements

Must hold the equivalent to a Level 8 in an appropriate discipline.

1 SEMESTER - PART-TIME Blended delivery



Students will undertake an element of their learning online (80%), via primarily asynchronous (and some synchronous) modes. These will include lectures, online resources and workshops.
