About the Service

APP Training Service provides a community- based, person centred, outreach support service for adults with an Autism Spectrum Diagnosis (ASD) and co-occurring mental health difficulties. APP uses a programme approach which focuses on emotional supports, practical guidance, and advocacy.

Our programs aim to improve the individual’s quality of life, empowering them to make decisions and choices that enhance their capacity to live more meaningful lives in their community. Our service delivery works in line with the HSE’s Day Service national policy (New Directions 2012).

Role and Responsibilities

The Behavioural Therapist will:

  • Be an integral part of the APP service delivery team, working holistically, autonomously and in collaboration with management and staff, to form a tailor made, person centred Behavioural support plan as part of our referrals needs.
  • Be required to work with those who present with behaviours that challenge as well as bringing evidenced based strategies along with knowledge and expertise specific to ASD and mental health to help decrease the frequency and impact of their behaviours.
  • Work in a consultative role, offering specific expertise to our team and to other professionals to support and develop our programme members’ independence, inclusion, and skills development.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that relate to the area of positive behaviour support. To contribute to other strategic service development projects as necessary.
  • Design and deliver service-specific workshops within service and other relevant training packages on issues related to the support of people with behaviours of concern
  • Act at all times in line with relevant ethical codes and principles

Essential Criteria:

  • Applicants must have successfully completed a Masters degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) or PBS
  • Applicants must have at least 2 years experience of ongoing support work with individuals with a disability and/or mental health diagnosis
  • Applicant must have a full, clean divers license and access to personal transport
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, decision making and communication skills
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently
  • Knowledge of current best evidence based practice and in behaviour support and regulatory frameworks (HIQA, New Directions, Safeguarding)
  • Experience in staff training and implementation of active supports in the community
  • Efficient at report writing, information technology, and case management skills

  • Individual and/or Group Supervision provided

Work Location: In person and outreach in the community

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • No weekends

Licence/Certification:

  • MSc in ABA & a health related BSc as education qualifications
  • Full clean drivers licence and a suitable means of transport available.
