Graduate EI&C Engineer

Overview

The Engineering graduate will support the project engineering team in the design, procurement, and site support activities associated with power-generation and industrial EPC projects. This role provides structured exposure to engineering design workflows, construction activities, geotechnical interpretation, vendor engagement, and multi-disciplinary coordination within a professional engineering environment.

Responsibilities

General Characteristics

  • Gain practical experience applying engineering principles in a professional environment.
  • Work under close supervision while developing independence as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.
  • Develop awareness of safety, environmental responsibilities, and ethical practice.
  • Communicate clearly with engineering and construction teams.

Technical Responsibilities

Under supervision, you will assist with:

  • Collecting and organising project data (drawings, reports, surveys, specifications).
  • Basic calculations and design tasks such as levels, volumes, quantities, and simple checks.
  • Preparing and updating drawings or mark-ups using CAD tools.
  • Reviewing vendor drawings, reports, and EOR design packages.
  • Supporting preparation of technical submittals and tender inputs.
  • Participating in field investigations, testing, or construction observations.
  • Raising and tracking basic technical queries (RFIs) under guidance.

These tasks support the development of technical knowledge, problem-solving, and analytical skills promoted by Engineers Ireland.

Project, Programme & Task Support

The graduate will:

  • Assist with the organisation of documents, registers, and project deliverables.
  • Support schedule tracking, progress reporting, and quantity take-offs.
  • Contribute to tender inputs (BOQs, estimates, layout support) under direction.
  • Coordinate small tasks with other team members and disciplines.

This develops an understanding of project delivery, planning, quality processes, and multidisciplinary interaction.

Supervision, Mentorship & Learning

  • Receive daily guidance from assigned engineers and mentors.
  • Participate in technical reviews, team meetings, and site visits as appropriate.
  • Learn standard engineering procedures, codes, and design tools.
  • Gain awareness of professional responsibilities and progression toward Engineers Ireland graduate membership.

This supports the professional development and competence-building expected from an accredited Co-Op placement.

Construction & Site Support

Depending on project needs, the graduate may:

  • Visit or be based on the project sites to observe construction and installation works, QA/QC procedures, and safety practices.
  • Assist site engineers with measurements, progress checks, or documentation.
  • Learn construction sequencing, temporary works concepts, and practical buildability considerations.

This enhances understanding of how design translates to construction, a key requirement of Engineers Ireland.

Procurement & Vendor Interface

  • Review vendor information for completeness.
  • Support technical evaluations and documentation coordination.
  • Assist in tracking deliverables from suppliers and subcontractors.

This builds early experience in procurement, vendor management, and commercial awareness.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)

The graduate will:

  • Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, inductions, and risk-awareness briefings.
  • Support quality documentation such as checks, redlines, and revisions.
  • Develop an understanding of safe design and construction practices.

These align with Engineers Ireland's emphasis on ethics, safety, and professional responsibility.

Communication, Teamwork & Professionalism

The graduate will:

  • Prepare clear notes, emails, sketches, and basic reports.
  • Participate in team meetings and share updates on assigned tasks.
  • Work effectively with multi-discipline engineering and construction teams.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and respect in all interactions.

This helps build the professional attributes EI expects at early career stage.

IT & Digital Engineering

The graduate will:

  • Use CAD (as applicable) for basic design and drafting tasks.
  • Use document management systems such as SharePoint, Asite, or InEight.
  • Maintain accurate digital records and follow version control procedures.

This supports the digital competence required in modern engineering practice.

Benefits

  • 21 days annual leave + bank holidays (pro-rata).
  • Company Pension Scheme.
  • Life Assurance Scheme.
  • Training & education opportunities.
  • Work-Life balance.
  • Company-sponsored events.
