Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor
Overall Purpose of the Job
JS McCarthy Ltd is seeking to appoint a dedicated and proactive Health, Safety & Environmental
(HSE) Advisor to support the HSE Lead in the development and implementation of robust HSE
practices across our diverse range of sites and industry sectors throughout Ireland.
This role plays a key part in ensuring the business meets and maintains the highest standards of
compliance and best practice in line with Safe-T-Cert, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 accreditations.
The successful candidate will work closely with the HSE Lead, senior management & site personnel
and external stakeholders to promote and embed a strong, proactive health, safety, and
environmental culture across the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Due to the specialist nature of the work that JS McCarthy Ltd carries out we are prepared
to invest in the right candidate to further develop the following skills:
- Perform regular site audits, both formal and informal, and conduct necessary inspections
as outlined in the Safety Management System and relevant legislation, across all company
sites - Work with HSE Lead & Senior Management on HSE related issues & implement EHS goals.
- Attend client safety meetings & walkdowns
- Assist in the development & maintenance, and communicate all health and safety policies,
procedures, risk assessments, and safe operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring version
control and compliance with current legislation. - Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences;
prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions. - Conduct and record regular HSE meetings, compiling statistics and identifying trends.
- Lead and support health and safety inductions and internal training programmes for
managers and employees. - Draft and update site-specific method statements and risk assessments (RAMS).
- Promote awareness through safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and internal communication
initiatives. - Keep up to date with relevant legislation, industry standards, and emerging best practices,
advising management accordingly. - Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the company’s accreditation
systems (Safe-T-Cert, ISO 14001, ISO 9001). - Carry out additional HSE-related compliance tasks and duties as assigned by the Head of
Health, Safety & Sustainability.
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum Level 6 (or higher) qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Company transport will be provided with this role; therefore, a full, clean driving licence is
essential - Ability to prioritise work requirements and handling multiple tasks
- Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels, and Working at Heights instructor certification (desirable;
however, training can be provided).
Experience & Technical Competencies
This position will suit a recently qualified Health & Safety Professional who is willing to learn &
develop within a specialist contracting company that operates with varied industries and blue-chip
clients.
- Familiarity with Safe-T-Cert, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 systems (desirable).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
