Job Description

An exciting opportunity to work with Altratech’s Senior Synthetic Biologist as the company moves to the next stage of a pipeline for the synthesis, purification and QC analysis for Altratech’s proprietary reagents. The Laboratory Technician will be trained in the use of automated instrumentation for Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) synthesis. They will use a suite of analytical equipment including HPLC and Mass Spectrometry instruments to validate these proprietary reagents before releasing them for use in Altratech’s nucleic acid detection platform. Some travel between different institutions in Dublin and Limerick for equipment access will be required as a part of the role.

Altratech is a multidisciplinary company, in addition to the specific body of work outlined above, the opportunity will exist for the candidate to receive training in other scientific methods and instrumentation in areas of molecular biology and biotechnology as the project and company needs evolve.

Key Areas of Responsibility (including but not limited to)

  • Support the Senior Synthetic Biologist in the ongoing requirements for PNA probe synthesis at Altratech.
  • Adhere to good laboratory practices for both health and safety and record keeping.
  • Support the Laboratory Manager in general equipment and laboratory maintenance at Altratech.
  • Take on the responsibility in areas of new scientific methods and instrumentation in molecular biology/biotechnology as needed by the company.

Experience

  • Educated to Degree level or similar experience in Chemistry or other appropriate discipline.
  • 1-3 years’ work experience in either an organic-, analytical- or peptide-chemistry laboratory.
  • Experience in at least two core areas (HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, Peptide Synthesis, Flow Cytometry, Nanoparticle Analysis, IR/NMR Spectroscopy; PCR/qPCR).
  • Experience in the implementation of laboratory safety regulations.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Resourceful and adaptable.
  • Independent.
  • Critical thinker.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external colleagues.
