Laboratory Technician (Shift Work) - Kingscourt
Job Purpose
We are looking for a Shift Quality Laboratory Technician to champion product quality through accurate testing and monitoring of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products. You will ensure compliance with defined procedures and EN Standards, identify and manage non-conforming material, and support continuous improvement through World Class Manufacturing (WCM), the Integrated Management System (IMS) and structured problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out sampling, testing and approval of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products, ensuring accurate recording of results.
- Monitor production and make recommendations for retardant, additive and process adjustments to maintain product quality within specification.
- Identify, investigate and manage non-conforming material, including placing product on hold and communicating issues to relevant stakeholders.
- Support customer complaint investigations, product trials, R&D activities and verification testing.
- Review laboratory and production data with Process Engineering and Quality teams to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Support WCM and continuous improvement initiatives, using data analysis and standard problem-solving tools to reduce waste and improve efficiency and quality.
- Maintain IMS procedures, SOPs and risk assessments, and support internal audits.
- Assist with laboratory equipment calibration and environmental/material testing when required.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, housekeeping and behavioural safety at all times.
- Work collaboratively across Production, Quality, Process Engineering and R&D teams within a fast-paced 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Key Laboratory Activities
- Daily mix sample and product testing
- Retardant adjustment
- Plasterboard conditioning and testing
- Trial and verification testing
- Routine product and raw material testing
- Laboratory data entry and results verification
- Practical test reporting
Qualifications & Experience
- Science or Engineering degree.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with Minitab or statistical analysis is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and apply technical procedures and manufacturing processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively cross-functionally and as part of a team.
- Well organised, adaptable and able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
