Laboratory Technician (Shift Work)

Job Purpose

We are looking for a Shift Quality Laboratory Technician to champion product quality through accurate testing and monitoring of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products. You will ensure compliance with defined procedures and EN Standards, identify and manage non-conforming material, and support continuous improvement through World Class Manufacturing (WCM), the Integrated Management System (IMS) and structured problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out sampling, testing and approval of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products, ensuring accurate recording of results.
• Monitor production and make recommendations for retardant, additive and process adjustments to maintain product quality within specification.
• Identify, investigate and manage non-conforming material, including placing product on hold and communicating issues to relevant stakeholders.
• Support customer complaint investigations, product trials, R&D activities and verification testing.
• Review laboratory and production data with Process Engineering and Quality teams to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Support WCM and continuous improvement initiatives, using data analysis and standard problem-solving tools to reduce waste and improve efficiency and quality.
• Maintain IMS procedures, SOPs and risk assessments, and support internal audits.
• Assist with laboratory equipment calibration and environmental/material testing when required.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, housekeeping and behavioural safety at all times.
• Work collaboratively across Production, Quality, Process Engineering and R&D teams within a fast-paced 24/7 manufacturing environment.

• Practical test reporting

Qualifications & Experience

• Science or Engineering degree.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with Minitab or statistical analysis is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to understand and apply technical procedures and manufacturing processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively cross-functionally and as part of a team.
• Well organised, adaptable and able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
