The Intellectual Property Office of Ireland (IPOI), under the auspices of the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment is the national intellectual property body. It is an independent statutory office headed by the Controller of Intellectual Property and is responsible for the administration of intellectual property (IP) rights in Ireland.

The IPOI currently has a vacancy for a Patent Examiner in its office in Kilkenny.

Reporting to the Senior Examiner of Patents, Patent Examiners assess the technical and legal aspects of an invention disclosed in a patent application or of a product disclosed in an application for a Supplementary Protection Certificate. In addition, they deal with requests for the provision of advice and information regarding the patent system in Ireland and abroad and are responsible for liaising with applicants and performing other search, examination, and administration tasks as required.

The role offers a unique opportunity to combine scientific expertise with the legal aspects of intellectual property.
