Role Overview
BnM has an opening for a Trading Analyst Graduate to support the BnM Trading team in ensuring efficient trading operations and the successful delivery of key projects. The BnM Trading team are energy market and commodity experts who foster a strong spirit of collaboration and continuous development in a fast-paced environment of day-to-day operations.
This hybrid role focuses on providing insights on competitors, market outcomes and market changes, supporting the business to meet its objectives and maximise commercial returns. Success in this role means contributing to BnM tackling climate change, helping to build a better future and meeting Ireland’s renewable targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day trading activities of the company, including data provision, analytics and report writing to support traders and trading strategies that maximise commercial returns for a diverse portfolio of generation assets, including dispatchable thermal, wind, solar and battery, under a variety of contract structures.
- Support the Trading team in impact assessments and preparations for future market changes, for example EirGrid’s Future Power Markets programme of work.
- Maintain and develop models used by the Trading team, including power price forecasting, market dynamics and power system operation models, and document processes and procedures to support business continuity and best practice.
- Build productive working relationships with industry working groups (such as EirGrid, SEMO, ESI, WEI and Solar Ireland) and project stakeholders, and take an active part in the BnM Graduate Programme, including training and events.
- Work with the wider BnM team to support the evaluation and onboarding of new projects and operational assets, gaining experience across the Commercial and Asset Management teams.
- Regularly communicate developments in the wholesale energy market to commercial and financial teams, providing insights that inform decision-making.
- All employees are expected to co-operate fully with the company’s provisions for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises, and to participate proactively in the Performance Management process.
What We’re Looking For
- Third-level degree (minimum 2:1) in a discipline with a high level of numerical, analytical and/or financial content, such as Commerce, Economics, Finance, Science, Energy or Sustainability
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with the ability to analyse, manipulate and present large data sets
- Basic knowledge of the Irish electricity market, the renewable energy sector and the factors influencing wholesale electricity prices and market outcomes, with a demonstrated interest in energy markets, trading, power systems or commercial analytics
- Exposure to energy markets, renewable generation, battery storage, power system operations, commodity trading or related analytical environments, and experience completing analytical projects involving data analysis, forecasting, optimisation or commercial evaluation
- Knowledge of Irish Electricity Market (I-SEM) dynamics, market structures, regulations and upcoming market changes, and an understanding of Day-Ahead, Intraday and Balancing Market arrangements
- SQL, Python and/or Power BI for data analysis, reporting, visualisation and modelling, and experience with databases, forecasting models or statistical analysis tools
