A leading Legal Costs Accountancy practice based in Cork City is seeking to recruit a Trainee Legal Cost Accountant to join their growing firm. Being the only firm based in Cork City, there is a significant career development opportunity.

Legal Costs Accountants specialise in the processes involved in assessing, evaluating and recovering legal fees for all professions involved in legal work of almost any kind. The role will provide exposure to the law relating to legal costs generally but also various areas of law, to include, Personal Injury, Breach of Contract, Medical Negligence, Professional Negligence, Commercial Litigation, Judicial Review, Probate and Family Law, Injunctions and Defamation.

Principal responsibilities / skills needed:

  • Work alongside senior employees and management to, initially, take instruction, learn and
    grow into the professional role of a Legal Costs Accountant.
  • Be sponsored and supported through initial membership of our professional body, ILCA.
  • The role requires high levels of competence with Microsoft Office software and the ability to learn dictation skills, professional phone manner etc.
  • Liaise with clients to satisfy requirements and to, after initial supervision, manage your individual case load.
  • Liaise with external Legal Costs Accountants, Solicitors, Public Bodies and Insurance companies to conduct negotiations on all relevant elements of the legal costs arising in a case and dealing with all aspects of legal costs related queries.
  • Provision of reports and statistical data to clients and opponents as required.
  • Law-related degree required.
  • Willingness to learn and advance on a defined career path.
  • Strong organisational and numerical skills.
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving skills and advocacy skills required for attending to make legal arguments before officers of the Court.
  • Driver’s licence preferred.

This role is on site five days a week in Cork City.

Initially, this is a trainee role. Once the training period expires there is scope to secure a pay increase and enter the firm’s bonus program. Eligibility is based on displayed ability, effectiveness in the role and fee income generated.
