ou will be part of the Enterprise Services Division, the Central Banking Services Division or the End User Experience Services Division within the Directorate General Information Systems.

Our Directorate General consists of around 400 staff working at the forefront of the ECB’s digital transformation. Our mission is to deliver world-class digital capabilities that support the ECB’s goals in an era driven by data and innovation. We play a key role in transforming the ECB’s operational model by integrating information technology (IT) into business processes.

We are also responsible for implementing digital roadmaps, streamlining demand, accelerating innovation and enabling self-service solutions across business areas. Using both local and cloud-based technologies, we strengthen digital sovereignty and information security, delivering efficient, future-ready solutions.

You will join one or more product teams of five to six staff members supporting business areas such as Human Resources, Communications, Administration and Market Operations. Each team develops and operates IT services end-to-end in a BizDevOps model, provides user support and works closely with service coordinators and business stakeholders.

Your role

As a trainee in Information Systems, you will:

  • contribute to enhancing the ECB’s portfolio of applications and services;
  • gain experience with a range of technologies;
  • interact with end users to gather requirements and support business analysis and project management;
  • participate in the development of business solutions;
  • support project planning and coordination;
  • engage with real-world IT challenges in an institutional environment.

Teams

Enterprise Services Division – Human Resources (HR) product team

You will support HR platforms used daily by ECB staff, including systems for recruitment, learning, payroll and benefits. You will work with technologies such as SAP Human Capital Management and SaaS platforms like Avature (Talent Suite), imc Learning Suite and OpenText (SMAX). You will contribute to business analysis, project management and solution development.

Enterprise Services Division – Communications product team

You will help design and operate IT systems supporting internal and external communications, from speeches to social media. You will gain insight into communication processes, stakeholder management and project delivery, while building skills in cloud services, IT security, change management and data protection.

Enterprise Services Division – Administration product team

You will support the digitalisation of administrative services, contributing to cloud integration, service migration and improved reporting through APIs. You will gain experience in project delivery, data analysis, IT security and process improvement.

Central Banking Services Division – Market Operations product team

You will act as a link between business and IT, analysing processes, gathering requirements, designing interfaces and supporting testing in areas such as monetary policy operations and risk management.

End User Experience Services Division – Automation/M365 team

This team delivers automation and collaboration solutions using platforms such as Mendix, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Power BI and Copilot. You will support low-code and AI-driven tools to improve workflows and productivity.

End User Experience Services Division – Enterprise Information Management team

You will contribute to managing the ECB’s knowledge systems, including DARWIN (document and records management), digital signatures and library services. The team is also exploring AI integration and knowledge graph development.

End User Experience Services Division – User Experience Management team

You will help measure and improve user experience across systems using tools such as Nexthink and Qualtrics, supporting service improvements and enhancing productivity.

End User Experience Services Division – Digital Workplace team

You will support core technologies including endpoint devices, virtual desktops (Citrix and Azure Virtual Desktop) and email infrastructure, working closely with stakeholders across the ECB.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, computer science, mathematics, business);
  • a solid understanding of IT and information systems;
  • interest in the ECB’s mission;
  • strong communication skills;
  • proficiency in MS Office and MS Teams;
  • advanced (C1) English and intermediate (B1) in another EU language.

Desired:

  • knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. PMBOK, PM²) or certifications (e.g. PMP);
  • familiarity with agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum);
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • knowledge of business analysis (e.g. BABOK, ECBA);
  • experience with requirements gathering, testing and process modelling (e.g. Camunda);
  • programming knowledge (e.g. Java, JavaScript) and low-code tools;
  • experience designing user interfaces (e.g. Figma).
