The Role

Between 6th – 24th January 2025, the Educational Research Centre (ERC) will be involved in scoring student responses on MDLI-G and is seeking temporary staff to assist with this. MDLI-G is a screening test of literacy aimed at students in First and Third Year of secondary school. It is being standardised in collaboration with NEPS.

Coding takes place at the Educational Research Centre (ERC) from 9:30 am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Scorers will work within a small team marking individual student responses and entering scores into a database. Training in how to score students’ responses will be provided (including marking schemes and examples).

Scorers will score short texts written by students. Scoring will be based on pre-defined criteria in four areas: Ábhar, réimse, cruinneas, peannaireacht. High level of accuracy and attention to details is required by the scorer, along with expert knowledge of Irish to determine the appropriate score of written responses in each of the four categories.

Payment is €25 per hour with a six-hour working day.

Requirements

Scorers for MDLI-G are required to have:

  • A third-level qualification (honours) in Irish, Education with Irish or related disciplines. Students in their final year of such courses will also be considered;
  • Experience of teaching and grading student’s work in Irish is a desired criterion;
  • Proficiency in Irish and prepared to work in a collaborative environment;
  • Evidence of proficiency in Irish should be provided, if applicable (e.g. TEG);
  • Full-time availability within the relevant dates; and
  • Experience with the basic functions of spreadsheet/database software.

Is triail scagthástála litearthachta é MDLI-G atá dírithe ar dhaltaí sa Chéad agus sa Tríú Bliain san iar-bhunscoil. Tá sé á chaighdeánú i gcomhar leis an An tSeirbhís Náisiúnta Síceolaíochta Oideachais (NEPS).

Tarlaíonn an códú ag an bhForas Taighde ar Oideachas (ERC) ó 9:30 rn go 4:30 in, Luan go hAoine. Oibreoidh na códóirí laistigh d’fhoireann bheag ag marcáil freagraí scoláirí aonair agus ag cur scóir isteach i mbunachar sonraí. Cuirfear oiliúint ar fáil maidir le scóráil freagraí na scoláirí (scéimeanna marcála agus samplaí san áireamh).

Scóróidh cóidóirí téacsanna gearra a scríobh na scoláirí. Beidh an scóráil bunaithe ar chritéir réamhshainithe i gceithre réimse: Ábhar, réimse, cruinneas, peannaireacht. Tá ardleibhéal cruinnis agus aird ar mhionsonraí ag teastáil ón scórálaí mar aon le saineolas ar an nGaeilge chun scór cuí na bhfreagraí scríofa a chinneadh i ngach ceann de na ceithre chatagóir.

Íoctar €25 in aghaidh na huaire le lá oibre sé huaire an chloig.

Ní mór na nithe seo a leanas a bheith ag na códóirí MDLI-G:

  • Cáilíocht tríú leibhéal (onóracha) sa Ghaeilge, Oideachas le Gaeilge nó disciplíní gaolmhara. Breathnófar freisin ar mhic léinn atá ina mbliain deiridh de chúrsaí dá leithéid;
  • Is critéar inmhianaithe é taithí ar obair na scoláirí a mhúineadh agus a ghrádú i nGaeilge;
  • Inniúlacht sa Ghaeilge agus sásta oibriú i dtimpeallacht chomhoibríoch;
  • Ba chóir fianaise ar inniúlacht sa Ghaeilge a sholáthar, más cuí (m.sh. TEG);
  • Bheith ar fáil go lánaimseartha laistigh de na dátaí ábhartha; agus
  • Taithí ar fheidhmeanna bunúsacha bogearraí do scarbhileoga/bunachair sonraí.
