What skills are important for success?

You have a lot of tasks, both simple and complex, so you need good time management, dedicating different amounts of time to different tasks. You may have to collaborate with people who aren’t necessarily in the same line of work as you are, so good communication skills are needed.

What experiences helped build your skills?

I like to be creative, both when I’m DJing and when I’m in work, thinking outside the box. You would be surprised how many great ideas come from just taking a step back from the work and seeing it in a different light.

What do you love about your job?

I really enjoy the development side of things and I enjoy the team aspect. Workday puts together people they feel will work well together. Everyone is very friendly so you’re never afraid to ask questions or reach out for help. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and I’m quite a relaxed person, so it fits me well.

What advice would you give a first year student?

Get involved in as many extra-curricular activities as you can. In software engineering there are always competitions with big prizes. You’ll learn skills like team building and development skills. It will also look good on your application when you look for a job,

What coding languages are popular at the moment?

We use XpressO, which is an object-oriented language. It’s very similar to Java; all object-oriented languages are built on the same foundation.
