Caroline Staniforth, Assistant Front of House Manager, The Merrion Hotel Dublin

Degree subject
Hospitality Management
Job title
Assistant Front of House Manager
Employer
The Merrion Hotel, Dublin
While at college I had a work placement at The Merrion Hotel and after graduation I returned as a receptionist. Through the internal management development programmes available at The Merrion, I succeeded in being promoted to Shift Leader, then to Head Receptionist and again to my current position as Assistant Front of House Manager.
Much of my work involves working with guests – the role includes reception, concierge, reservations, group arrivals and billings, and meeting and greeting VIP guests. I'm also responsible for employee development, support and training.
My ambition has always been to work in the hospitality industry. I wanted a job which had the people factor and the hospitality industry certainly has that. It's an ever-changing environment – every day is different, and it's certainly not routine.
Advice for graduates
