Eliz Sarki

Graduate Design Engineer

Kingspan

What does your role in Kingspan involve?

My role involves designing non-structural heating aisle containment systems for data centres to optimise airflow and improve efficiency. Furthermore, collaborating closely with other engineers and project managers to ensure each design aligns with project requirements, site constraints, and client needs. A strong focus is placed on continuously improving system performance and design practicality across every project.

What is the most interesting project you have been involved in since you joined?

The most interesting project I’ve worked on so far involved contributing to the design of an advanced heating aisle containment (HAC) system. The scope included designing doors and developing installation guides to support on-site implementation. This project stood out due to the technical complexity of the containment requirements and the high standards required by the client. It was a rewarding experience that required attention to detail.

What prompted you to apply to Kingspan?

The opportunity on a diverse range of projects and to be a part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The role offered the chance to learn from experienced professionals, and the ability to contribute to impactful solutions. Meeting new people, expanding technical knowledge, and working in a setting that encourages growth, and innovation made it an ideal fit for me.

What was your experience of the Kingspan graduate recruitment process?

The recruitment process was well-structured, engaging, and quite straightforward. It began with a video interview, followed by a virtual assessment that included both a presentation and a collaborative group task. The final stage was an in-person interview at the company, which offered a great insight into the work environment and team culture. I found each step of the process very well designed to highlight different strengths and made the experience rewarding.

Have you any tips for someone else thinking of applying to Kingspan?

For anyone considering applying, I would say it’s helpful to be open-minded, engaged, and ready to show your collaborative and technical skills. Take time to prepare for each stage of the process. Be genuine and be able to contribute during group discussions. It’s also worth getting familiar with the company’s work. Most importantly, be yourself and approach each stage with enthusiasm and willingness to grow and develop your skills.

Looking back, what qualities and behaviours do you think you displayed during the recruitment process which made you a good fit for Kingspan?

Throughout the recruitment process, qualities such as communication, open-mindedness, and problem solving were always demonstrated. Being honest about my experience in college helped create a connection between me and the interviewers. I showed teamwork and collaboration skills in the assessment stage of the process. I believe that these behaviours made the overall process a rewarding experience.
