Laura Groves, Commercial Graduate, daa

What does your job involve?
I work in the daa travel services team, in areas such as airport lounges, fast-track and platinum services and airport clubs. My week is broken down into various strategic services, compiling reports, dealing with stakeholders and managing our service-level agreements.
What are important skills to have?
Good communication is vital; you’re dealing with a lot of people, from customers to colleagues in different departments. It’s also fundamental that you have a strong work ethic and can be dynamic in terms of how you work as it is a very fast-paced environment.
What is the best thing about your job?
I really love the responsibility that you’re given from almost day one in this job, and then the challenges and what you find out about yourself in overcoming these challenges.
What student experiences have helped your career?
The most beneficial thing was working part time. This gave me invaluable experience in terms of managing time commitments, balancing work and study and learning how to deal with customers. It’s definitely something that has stood to me.
What key skill should first year students develop in your opinion?
If I was a first year student I would work on developing their self-confidence and leadership skills so you can lead a team or manage a project and successfully bring others along with you.
