Meet Jonathan, a Senior Treasury Analyst at PTSB

ptsb

Tell us about your current role, educational background, and work experiences to date?

I studied Economic Science at UCD and joined the PTSB Graduate Programme in 2023 as a Treasury graduate. After 18 months on the Treasury Graduate Programme, I have become a Senior Analyst with the Assets and Liabilities Management team (ALM).

What are some of the key things you enjoy about your job and working in PTSB?

The workload at PTSB is varied and interesting. There are always new projects and challenges to be a part of. PTSB really helped develop my technical ability and the people are great; they provide a platform of open engagement and learning. Anyone who puts themselves forward and works hard will usually find themselves involved in new initiatives and opportunities that can progress your career.

Tell us about one of the key achievements from your time in the Graduate Talent Programme?

My key achievement was securing a full-time job as a result of participating in the Graduate Programme and developing my technical knowledge. I earned a diploma in Complex Financial Instruments with the Institute of Banking, supported by PTSB. This aided my development greatly within the Treasury and wider finance function.

How did the Graduate Talent Programme in PTSB shape your career so far?

The Graduate Talent Programme in PTSB shaped my career by providing the platform to achieve and succeed in any endeavour that I had the initiative to engage in. It provided a holistic experience, facilitating three different rotations within my function and really embedded a concrete understanding of the Treasury industry. It also helped develop a whole new network for me to engage with which was essential for understanding different roles and functions.

What advice would you give to your younger self if you were starting the Graduate Talent Programme again?

My advice would be to ask more questions. Never be afraid of asking too many questions. If you do not understand the answer, then ask the question again until you do. Always be developing your own abilities and knowledge base. Reach out to your fellow Grads and ask them about their own rotations and experiences. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes that’s how you learn. Make sure to learn the structure of the institution and the various sub departments and associated functions and roles.

Any tips for students or graduates interested in applying for PTSB’s Graduate Talent Programme?

I would advise students or graduates interested in applying for PTSB to familiarise themselves with the company’s financial performance. Look to any publication available, information and key reports such as the annual report. Take the time to get an understanding of the different acronyms and terminology associated with the finance industry. Finally make sure to use all the services available at your university, such as career council services, that will guide you through the interview process and speak to any PTSB members or the Talent team at the local graduate fairs.
