Liam Corbett, an apprentice at Allianz, speaking in an interview setting.

How did you get your apprenticeship

I work as an Insurance Practitioner Apprentice with Allianz. I was in college in Galway for two years and I just wasn't happy with my course, so when I saw the apprenticeships on offer I was very interested in the one with Allianz, and I was offered the job.

What does your apprenticeship involve?

My work is commercial underwriting currently. I deal primarily with insurance brokers, who send us in details of their clients claims and we set up a quote on our system for them to discuss with their client. Their clients could be anything from a small business to a large multinational.

What other activities have helped in your apprenticeship?

I've always been involved in hurling and football, which is built upon teamwork and communication, so bringing those skills into my current role has been a great help.

What skills do you need to be successful?

I think communication is vital between working with your own team and dealing with the brokers, you really need to be a people person.

What's the best thing about your apprenticeship?

The best thing about is working with the team in Allianz. We work very hard together, we socialise together and there are so many people in Allianz to get to know.
