What does your job involve?

My job involves engaging with the business units and our client base on a day to day basis, ensuring they have everything they need and are utilising our applications and services.

What path led to your job?

I graduated from the national College of Ireland with a computer science degree in 2014. The college had sent on an email about vacancies in graduate development programmes. The ESB’s was the one I applied for.

What skills make you successful?

My job on a daily basis involves communicating and liaising with different people, so interpersonal and communication skills are key. On the technical side you need to be able to throw yourself into new projects and challenges. Patience is also key as it will take time for you to pick everything up but it’s a great experience along the way.

Do you have any advice for students?

A big aspect is teamwork so get involved as much as you can with clubs and societies. Make yourself stand out from everybody else and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward for new challenges.

What’s the best thing about your job?

ESB is an international company so I get to meet people on a daily basis from all over the world and get to hear their stories and experiences.

Is it an exciting environment for a graduate?

ESB is very dynamic and innovative so you’re very well received as a graduate. There’s a sense that people really want you to do well within the company and they’re always there to lend a hand if you need it, especially on advice on how to further your career.
