My technological background meant that, for me, a career involving technology was a natural choice. I was also looking for a challenging job that would provide me with the opportunity to use my technical skills and enable me to develop my business knowledge. After searching graduate websites, I saw an advertisement for the RBS graduate programme. It offered a career in a growing global company with a great reputation – and it seemed perfect!
The recruitment process involved interviews, an assessment centre and online testing. Thankfully I got the job and have been working for RBS Group Technology for nearly a year. The company has offered a great graduate programme containing intensive technical and soft-skills training. I work in application production support, which provides technology support to some of the bank's most major and critical systems.
This has been a great introduction to a wide variety of systems, programs and the techniques that are used to support the bank. I love my job and am constantly challenged by it. I am continuously learning and I rarely do the same thing twice; last month, for example, I was invited to be a guest at a senior managers' meeting and I've also had the opportunity to dial in to a live, red system incident.
