Niamh started her journey with Fidelity in September 2021 after finishing her Undergraduate degree in History and Political Science at Trinity College Dublin. Niamh joined the Securities team as a Specialist Apprentice within the Trade Management Services team. After joining during the Covid Pandemic, Niamh was delighted with the return to office and work socials as it meant that she got to know people outside of the wider TMS team, however she enjoys the benefits allowed by the continued Hybrid model operated at Fidelity.

Niamh also completed her Higher Diploma in Financial Services Analytics at the National College of Ireland as part of her two-year Apprenticeship Program. She really enjoyed the networking events and skills workshop hosted by Early Careers both virtually and in person. She notes that she felt very supported by the Early Careers team both during and at the end of her program with advice provided on navigating the world of professional work and taking the next steps within her career.

Niamh highly recommends the Fidelity Apprenticeship as an entry into a career within the Financial Services Industry when coming from a non-finance back-ground as the combination of on-the-job and off-the-job modules compliment the training and learning completed alongside in the workplace.

Niamh had a great time working with the TMS Securities team and enjoyed learning from the great vantage point that the middle office provides between the desk and back-office functions. During this time, she also joined various D&I strands such as the Gender Balance and LGBT+ Ally Networks and got to attend some brilliant events such as the International Woman’s Day Networking Lunch, the Annual Pride Parades and Ally Training.

Through the people she had met and network she had made, Niamh was given great guidance on what to pursue after her Apprenticeship ended. As a result of this, she decided to apply for a Senior Analyst role within the department on the TMS Derivatives Oversight and Collateral Management team.

She felt that she had learned so much in her previous position that she wanted to expand her instrument knowledge further. Most importantly, Niamh had met some great people and mentors during her two years and felt that this combined with the company’s values and behaviors made Fidelity a really great place to work.
