Conor Geraghty, Financial Services Auditor, EY

What are the main tasks you do each day?

When you come into EY to work in the Assurance (audit) Department, you are given some real responsibility in terms of working with clients. On a daily basis I would be in touch with the client, requesting information, answering queries and updating the client on the progress of the audit.

What skills do you need to be successful?

Being people oriented is very important, and you need to have confidence in terms of how you present yourself, whether to colleagues or clients. Auditing is essentially a service and our business relationships are based upon our interaction with clients and ultimately, how we deal with them. You need to know what your time constraints are and how effectively you can perform, bearing in mind your work load. Time management is very important.

What's the best thing about your job?

I like the way I can work with the teams in EY. I get to work with senior people, who have been successful in their careers so I'm learning every day and it's something different every day.

Why were you successful in the recruitment process?

EY offer and extensive internship programme so I applied in conjunction with my undergrad degree (Commerce) so as part of my degree with the Quinn Business School I was taken on the EY internship programme and I was fortunate enough to be offered a graduate contract as a result of the work I put in and the training I got.
