I enjoyed the modules I had in Software Testing in college, so I started to explore that route, which led me to apply to Expleo’s Quality Assurance Graduate Programme.

What's your name and Job Title?

Megan Leonard and I work as a Quality Assurance Associate.

What does your job involve?

I ensure software developed is of very high quality and meets business requirements. I’m responsible for reviewing software requirements, creating robust test cases, executing them to identify any defects or bugs and obtaining test evidence for audit purposes. I also capture requirements through user stories and carry out regression testing to verify that previously developed software still performs as expected.

How did you get into your job? What were you looking for, and what is your educational background?

I studied Enterprise Computing at Dublin City University. After completing my degree, I wasn’t exactly sure what area of technology I wanted to work in as there were so many options. I knew a graduate programme would be a good option for me to kickstart my career as it provides structured training and development opportunities as well as ongoing support.

I enjoyed the modules I had in Software Testing in college, so I started to explore that route, which led me to apply to Expleo’s Quality Assurance Graduate Programme.

What was the Expleo hiring process like getting into the Grad Programme?

It was a very smooth and positive experience. Within a few days of submitting my application, I received a screening phone call. I was then invited to participate in a virtual workshop with other candidates. This involved introduction presentations to the company, an assessment, a team-building activity, and a one-to-one interview.

The overall process was very quick, and unlike other companies, I have interviewed with as I got more exposure to the role and interacted with employees across different areas during the hiring process.

What skills do you need to be successful in your role?

Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are important. These are needed to accurately capture requirements when preparing test cases and to identify defects and bugs in the software. Great communication, teamwork, and time management skills are also important.

What have you enjoyed working with Expleo?

I have enjoyed the structured training and development process. The first month of my employment was dedicated to getting to know the company, the other grads and training for the role. I got the chance to receive ISTQB Software Testing and Selenium certificates and participate in other courses to expand my knowledge across other role-specific subjects.

Day to day I work with a group of very friendly and approachable people, this has contributed to my enjoyment of working here at Expleo.

What are your hopes for the future?

Once I complete the Graduate Programme, I hope to move into a QA Analyst role. Expleo provides structured progression opportunities so I will be exploring my options once I gain more experience. I also hope to expand my knowledge of the test automation process and see what opportunities are available.

What advice would you give to a college student looking at careers and jobs?

Have more confidence in your abilities. As a graduate, I wouldn’t apply to certain jobs because I didn’t believe I met every requirement. However, a lot of companies do value passion, enthusiasm, and the willingness to learn, than having many years of experience.
