Challenging work with a global impact? We offer that

Founded in 2013, AbbVie is a global, research-driven biopharmaceutical company committed to developing innovative advanced therapies for some of the world’s most complex and critical conditions. The company now employs ~2,600 people across eight sites in Ireland including Dublin, Cork, Sligo and Mayo, five of which are manufacturing facilities listed below.

ABBVIE SLIGO – MANORHAMILTON ROAD

AbbVie Ireland operates two separate plants in Sligo employing more than 200 staff. The company’s high containment facility on the Manorhamilton Road was established in 2002 and has dedicated capabilities for potent active pharmaceutical ingredient and drug product manufacturing. This site recently underwent a significant €85 million expansion that doubled its footprint and provided additional capability to support AbbVie’s new product introductions.

ABBVIE SLIGO - BALLYTIVNAN

AbbVie has a second manufacturing site in Sligo at Ballytivnan. Founded in 1974, this plant is now a global centre of excellence for design control and precision engineering in the production of drug delivery devices. Among the products made at this location are components for a pen-style device used by patients who have been prescribed a company treatment for rheumatoid arthritis,Crohn’s disease, psoriasis and other immune mediated inflammatory conditions.

ABBVIE CORK - CARRIGTWOHILL

The company’s plant in Carrigtwohill, on the outskirts of Cork, is a modern ‘bulk tablet’ finish facility which manufactures solid and capsule formulations. Innovative new technologies, in combination with the depth of expertise that exists within the local workforce, has allowed those based there to develop and deliver products and processes to support AbbVie’s wider global needs. These range from small scale clinical trial supply to large commercial manufacturing

ABBVIE DUBLIN – CLONSHAUGH

AbbVie Clonshaugh is a pharmaceutical manufacturing site located in north Dublin since 1994. The site specialises in the manufacture of tablets and capsules, primarily in the therapeutic areas of neuroscience and gastrointestinal (GI) conditions.

The manufacturing capability at the location extends across a range of technologies including multiple releases and a range of manufacturing techniques to deliver on a broad portfolio of capsules and tablets. The Clonshaugh site employs more than 270 people with a further 60 employees supporting global functions.

ABBVIE MAYO - WESTPORT

Established in 1977, AbbVie’s Westport facility employs close to 1,400 people and is a centre of excellence for aseptic sterile manufacturing. The campus has grown to almost 750,000 sq. ft. on a 61-acre campus, and it encompasses a pharmaceuticals facility, two biologics plants and an ocular implant facility which manufactures a range of leading eye care products.

The €160 million second biologics facility was opened in early 2020. The new facility features a state-of-the-art microbiology and cell-based laboratory with world-class technology and research and development capabilities to support advances in discovery, development and manufacturing.
