Conor Browne

Digital Experience Executive

Kingspan

What does your role in Kingspan involve?

My role is digital experience executive for both Great Britain and Ireland. I work as part of the marketing team. I support all digital activities that the team are involved in. However, my primary role is to develop a better understanding of what our customers want and need when interacting with the business online and try to improve our digital offerings to satisfy this. I work on trying to understand how our users interact with our website, and what we can do to ensure they have a better experience with the website, how we can get more people to use our website and ultimately convert these users to customers who will buy our products.

What is the most interesting project you have been involved in since you joined?

The most interesting project that I have been involved in was the launch of the Kingspan homeowner’s hub on the website. This is an area on the website where a number of Kingspan’s divisions have combined knowledge and resources to provide homeowners with easily understood product information, useful tips for maintaining and upgrading their homes, and access to support services from Kingspan businesses. I supported the research that was carried out for the insulation business on what homeowners want to get from us about our products and services.

What prompted you to apply to Kingspan?

I spoke to Kingspan at the DCU careers fair, and the graduate programme sounded amazing. The main thing that stood out to me was that you would be offered a permanent job from the beginning, instead of a 12/24 month contract which was typical of other graduate programmes I was looking at. The content of the programme at Kingspan also sounded appealing, and it was exciting to learn of the possibility of travelling to meet other graduates from around the world, and to work on projects with people from all types of backgrounds.

What was your experience of the Kingspan graduate recruitment process?

The recruitment process had many challenging stages. There were plenty of opportunities to show my capabilities and through a range of tasks and working on concept projects to get an understanding of the types of things I could be working on in the job. While at times it did seem like a long process, it was very rewarding and worthwhile.

Have you any tips for someone else thinking of applying to Kingspan?

The most important tip is to be authentic and to avoid trying to make yourself out to be somebody you are not. If there are questions or tasks you are unsure of, say it, as this will give the best opportunity to get further clarification so that you can give a better response. People would prefer to see somebody try to develop their understanding of a topic, instead of taking a guess and getting it wrong. You are not expected to know everything.

Looking back, what qualities and behaviours do you think you displayed during the recruitment process which made you a good fit for Kingspan?

I believe the thing that made me stood out is my willingness to learn and develop myself. I am constantly trying to upskill myself. At the time of interview, I expressed interest in different courses that I was either completing or planning to complete. I think this showed that I would be happy to learn on the job and would not be put off by tasks I was not familiar with.
